Lahbab vs Margham — why we run Lahbab
Two main dune zones serve Dubai safari operators: Margham (closer, lower dunes, paler sand) and Lahbab (further, taller dunes, deeper red colour). We run our standard safari on Lahbab because the dune crests are higher, the photo opportunity is stronger, and the dune-bashing route has more variety. The trade-off is a slightly longer transfer — about 10-15 extra minutes from central Dubai compared to a Margham operator. Most guests don't notice the transfer difference because the air-conditioned Land Cruiser is comfortable; what they notice is the dune photo.
What's distinctive about the Lahbab red-dune route
- Tall dunes — some crests reach 30-40 metres above the sand bowl floor.
- Deeper red sand colour, especially in the late afternoon golden-hour light.
- Varied terrain — the dune-bashing run includes climbs, side-slides, descents and a final crest sunset stop.
- Less crowded than Margham mid-week — fewer convoys cross paths.
- Cleaner photo angles because the dunes are tall enough to create dramatic shadow lines.
