Why the season matters more than the booking date
Dubai desert temperature swings are the single biggest factor in whether your tour will be enjoyable. A January morning sits at 18-22°C with cool dunes and clear visibility. A July noon sits at 48-52°C on the dune crest with hot metal handlebars on quads and burning sand underfoot. Operators who run year-round (we do) shift slots to manage this — but the window of when a tour is comfortable narrows in summer. Pick the season first; pick the slot inside that season's comfortable hours.
Month-by-month operational guide
| Month | Day temp °C | Best slots | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|

| February | 22-27 | Any slot | Similar to January. Visibility excellent. |
| March | 26-31 | Morning + sunset | Spring shamal (sandstorm) window starts. Watch forecasts. |
| April | 30-36 | Morning + sunset | Late shamal possible. Daytime mid-slots becoming hot. |

Best slot by activity, by season
- Buggy/quad in winter: any slot. Sunset is photographically best.
- Buggy/quad in summer: dawn (06:00-08:00 ride) or post-sunset (18:30-20:00).
- Safari morning slot: works year-round. Best in summer when evening heat is too long.
- Safari evening slot: works year-round. Best in winter when the camp evening is comfortable.
- Hot air balloon: October-April only is the realistic window. Summer mornings often see haze that affects photos.
- Camel ride: avoid mid-day in summer (handlers pause for welfare). Sunset year-round, dawn in summer.
- Dirt biking: avoid summer entirely if you can. Body armour + 50°C is genuinely dangerous.
Sandstorm windows — what to actually expect
- Real sandstorms are rare — typically 1-3 days per year affect tours.
- Spring shamal season (March-April) is the most common window for haze and reduced visibility.
- Summer occasional dust storms reduce visibility for 1-2 days at a time.
- We monitor forecasts and reschedule at no charge if a sandstorm prevents the ride.
- Cloudy or hazy days are not the same as sandstorm — partial cloud often produces softer light for photos and we still run.
Special weeks to book ahead
Three windows fill faster than the rest. Dubai Shopping Festival (typically December 15 to early January) — sunset and weekend slots fill 5-7 days ahead. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha — bookings pack into the days immediately around the holiday. New Year's Eve — sunset slot specifically often books out 7-10 days ahead. Outside these, 24-48 hours is usually enough lead time even in peak season.
